An interesting characteristic of Taunt is that, unlike most status moves, it can influence a Pokémon hiding behind a substitute. In cases where a Pokémon exclusively possesses status moves or is subjected to Taunt after using a status move while holding a Choice item, they will be compelled to employ Struggle as their next action. Furthermore, on the turn that Taunt is initiated, if the Pokémon employing Taunt takes precedence in terms of speed over the targeted Pokémon, and the latter had opted for a status move that turn, the target's move will be thwarted and come to naught.
